Surrender

For the longest time, I’ve been working on feeling. Brene Brown’s talk on vulnerability really hit a spot, and I’ve come to learn more about myself and my defense mechanism.

Logic and sense is important to me. It’s a ‘true’ way to function. When you have certain rules in life, it’s easy to differentiate right from wrong. No one should find themselves the sucker at the table. You can’t be penalised for your choices when someone’s feelings get hurt.

But people are not machines; feelings are crucial in making humans human.

Without empathy, I become easily irritable. I’m impatient towards people and resistant to situations. Without empathy, I become judgemental. I’m not understanding and find it hard to accept why people do what they do.

So what is good about feeling feelings?

When I feel feelings, I am kind and hold lower expectations of others. I don’t feel the need to be in control of my environment. I become less rigid and willing to go with the flow. I don’t take it so hard on myself and others when things don’t happen the way they “should” (by my own definition). I am more respectful and observant.

It’s a constant reminder for myself to surrender. That instead of planning my life, it’s okay for me to allow life to happen and see how things unfold. Same goes for people’s choices. As much as I want things to go a certain, as much good intentions I have, there are things that, bluntly put, is none of my business. I should trust in the process.

I will end this post with some wise words from this month’s Tarotscopes by Louniverse:

You must trust it. 1000 per cent trust it. Take a seat in the Void and pull up a blanket. Get comfy.

Let your third eye adjust to the dark, much like a jungle cat. Totally surrender and abandon the need to have specific answers this month. Let them come when they do.
